Blue Marble Geographics Celebrates 25 Years in Business

Hallowell, Maine – June 19, 2018 — Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce that the company will celebrate its 25th anniversary on June 22. Founded in 1993, Blue Marble has been a pioneering force in the field of geospatial technology with products such as Geographic Calculator and Global Mapper helping to redefine the industry. From its humble beginnings in a small town in central Maine, Blue Marble has grown to the extent that it now boasts customers in virtually every country in the world.

Blue Marble’s GIS software is used by hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers throughout the world who need affordable, user-friendly, yet powerful GIS solutions. Users come from a wide range of industries including software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as government departments and academic institutions.

Blue Marble Geographics was founded on the premise that managing location-based data and ensuring geodetic accuracy should not cause a technical or financial burden. Originally developed for the local surveying community, the company’s flagship product, Geographic Calculator, offered powerful coordinate conversion and datum transformation capabilities that were simply not available in another platform.

Twenty-five years have passed and the Geographic Calculator is still going strong, both as a standalone application and as an embedded component within third party software. Beyond its core user base of surveyors, the software has been adopted by many organizations, government departments, and companies, including many household names, such as Shell and Apple.

Reflecting the prevailing spirit of innovation that permeates all facets of the company’s business, Blue Marble would later add Global Mapper to its suite of products. Often described as the Swiss Army Knife for GIS professionals and map-makers, the software offers an astonishing array of geospatial tools, from simple drawing and cartographic rendering to complex three-dimensional modeling.

“As we celebrate a quarter of a century, it is worth taking a moment to acknowledge two groups of people without whom the journey would not have been possible,” stated Patrick Cunningham, Blue Marble President. “To our dedicated employees, both current and former, and to our customers who have supported and inspired us over the years, we offer our heartfelt thanks.”

To celebrate this significant milestone, Blue Marble will be holding several events throughout the coming months. On June 21, the company will host a birthday party for employees and key customers at its headquarters in Hallowell, Maine. On September 21, a special 25th Anniversary Blue Marble User Conference (BMUC) will be conducted in Portland, Maine. For registration information, visit: http://www.bluemarblegeo.com/bmuc/index.php. Additionally, the company committed $100 for each employee to donate to the charitable organization of their choice ranging from local robotics clubs to well known international charities.
