Blue Marble to Participate in USGS Biennial GIS Workshop, Denver, CO

Gardiner, Maine — May 9, 2008 – Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce that they will be offering a talk on Applied Geodesy and two product demonstrations at the US Geological Survey’s (USGS) Biennial GIS Workshop at the Denver Federal Center during the week of May 12th, 2008. Blue Marble’s coordinate conversion technology is used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

On Wednesday, May 14th, Product Manager Sam Knight will offer a hands-on demonstration of the Geographic Calculator and Geographic Transformer and present a talk entitled “Geodesy Using the Geographic Transformer”. On Friday, May 16th, Knight will offer a second demonstration of both the Geographic Calculator and Geographic Transformer, which will showcase new features found in Calculator 7.0 and those planned for Geographic Transformer 6.0, slated for release later in 2008.

Over the last ten years, the Geographic Calculator has become the standard software program for coordinate transformation. Geographic Calculator 7.0 is a major version upgrade that features many new enterprise-wide collaboration tools and core library enhancements. These tools extend the power of the Calculator to enable geospatial data definition, manipulation and management across the user’s organization. During his demonstrations, Knight will touch upon all of the features and functions of the software, including interactive conversions, point database file conversions, map file conversions, and working with custom coordinate systems.

Using the concepts of Applied Geodesy and Blue Marble’s image georeferencing, reprojection, tiling and mosaicking tool, the Geographic Transformer, attendees will learn the basics of reading, understanding, and properly referencing and reprojecting raster data, from simple to complex conversions, mosaic and tile out imagery, and work through batch processes. A major version upgrade of this powerful tool is due to be released in 2008.
