Blue Marble Designates August as Academic Month

Hallowell, ME — July 28, 2021 — Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce that August 2021 is being recognized as Academic Month. Throughout the month, the company will be hosting a series of online events to showcase the use of the company’s innovative geospatial software in universities and colleges. Beginning with a hour-long webinar on August 4th, the schedule will also include a geography competition for students, a free GIS workshop for teachers, an introduction to the Global Mapper Academic Labs, and much more.

For nearly three decades, Blue Marble’s affordable, user-friendly GIS software has been meeting the needs of hundreds of thousands satisfied customers throughout the world.

By balancing powerful data processing and analysis functionality with simplicity of design, Global Mapper is ideally suited for teaching the basic principles of GIS. It effectively removes many technical barriers and allows teachers to focus on the practical application of GIS instead of simply teaching students how to use software. During the August 4th webinar, several teachers and faculty members will share their experiences and describe how they have integrated Global Mapper into their curriculum.

On August 11th, Blue Marble instructors will host a free, hands-on workshop for teachers simulating the use of Global Mapper in the classroom. Following a series of real-world exercises, the workshop will explore many of the software’s geospatial analysis tools and will introduce the latest additions to the Global Mapper Academic Labs, a series of teaching resources that are freely available to colleges and universities.

Throughout the month, Blue Marble will be sharing pertinent information about its academic programs including details of the student scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year, free or low-cost software licensing options for universities and colleges, a student-focused edition of its popular Where in the World Geo-Challenge, with a copy of Global Mapper Pro to be awarded to the winner, and much more.

“We are delighted that we can spend an entire month showcasing our academic programs” stated David McKittrick, Blue Marble Outreach and Training Manager. “At Blue Marble, we recognize that the future of the geospatial industry is in the hands of today’s students and we are working closely with universities and colleges throughout the world to ensure they have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.”

Both the webinar and workshop are free to attend however registration is required. For more information about these and the other Academic Month events, visit: bluemarblegeo.com/academic-programs/blue-marble-academic-month-august-2021.
