Blue Marble Applied Geodesy Training in Calgary, Alberta: Space Still Available

Gardiner, Maine — May 18, 2007 – Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce that although seats have been filling fast, there is still space left in the Applied Geodesy Training classes for both their Geographic Calculator and Geographic Transformer products in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Geodesy training using the Geographic Transformer will take place on Monday, June 11th, while the geodesy training using the Geographic Calculator will be held on Tuesday, June 12th; additional days are in the works. These sessions will take place in conjunction with the 2007 Gas & Oil Exposition. The daylong courses offer in-depth training on applied geodesy using these two powerful data conversion applications.

Each course features education on the fundamentals of geodesy and mapping, which is useful for the novice, and as a refresher for the expert geodesist. In fact, many people attend these courses for the geodesy training alone. Here is a chance to not only educate oneself on the foundations of geodesy and mapping concepts, but also learn how to really leverage the power of Blue Marble software. If you have a problem with the difference between a projection and a datum, then this is the course for you. If you manage GIS users and are responsible for the accuracy and reliability of your data and the expertise of your staff, then this is a great course for your entire department. You do not have to be a user of the Calculator or Transformer to benefit from this course.

“We have found that even the experienced GIS professional benefits from a primer on geodesy,” stated Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “These concepts are essential to all GIS work, but are so often overlooked. It truly is a worthwhile investment for any company that relies on accurate, quality geospatial data.”

In addition to the fundamentals of mapping, the daylong Calculator training session includes a detailed interactive overview of coordinate conversion, coordinate systems and geodesy. Users are then walked through the features and functions of the software including interactive conversions, point database file conversions, map file conversions, and working with custom coordinate systems. Users are encouraged to bring their own data for these sessions.

The Transformer course covers the entire functionality of the Transformer by using the client’s own data to familiarize them with, and master key image management skills for their unique situation. Users learn how to read, understand and properly reference and reproject raster data from simple to complex conversions, mosaic and tile out imagery and work through batch processes.
