Avenza Systems uses Blue Marble’s Image Referencing and Reprojection Technology in its new Geographic Imager Product

Gardiner, ME – July 26, 2005 — Avenza Systems of Toronto, Canada recently announced Geographic Imager, a new plug-in suite that adds geospatial functionality to Adobe’s Photoshop image editing program. This product introduces image referencing and reprojection capabilities based on Blue Marble Geographics GeoTransform 5.1 software developer tool kit.

"This is a perfect example of an established mapping software company seeing a need in the market place and leveraging Blue Marble technology to not only save time and money but generate sales," said Blue Marble Geographics President Patrick Cunningham.

Blue Marble Geographics’ GeoTransform 5.1 is the image transformation library behind the Geographic Transformer. GeoTransform is a dynamic link library (DLL) for Windows programmers who are using Visual Basic, C++, Delphi, PowerBuilder, C++ Builder, and other Windows development tools. With just a few function calls, developers are able to embed sophisticated image reprojection, raster file read and write in all of the major industry formats, and tile images in their applications within a matter of minutes! GeoTransform also uses Blue Marble’s GeoCalc libraries for coordinate conversion. For this project, a special MacOS implementation was created by the Blue Marble Professional Services Division for Avenza in order to meet their cross-platform requirements.

"Blue Marble’s libraries are not only sophisticated, comprehensive, and scalable but their team is always just a phone call or email away and extremely flexible, knowledgeable and helpful,” said Ted Florence, President of Avenza. “After much research we determined that the GeoTransform libraries were the best thing available for what we need to achieve.” he added.

About Geographic Imager: Geographic Imager from Avenza enhances the already commanding Adobe Photoshop imaging environment by adding all the tools and technology necessary to support the import, edit, manipulation and export of geospatial images such as aerial and satellite imagery. In addition to allowing the use of Photoshop’s numerous native imaging functions, including transparencies, cropping, individual pixel editing and brightness/contrast control, Geographic Imager adds the ability to import and recognize geotiffs and other referenced raster formats. Geographic Imager also has the capacity to automatically mosaic images spatially, reproject images, transform and geo-reference images based on ground control points and re-export images with all spatial information intact.
