Blue Marble Geographics Announces the Release of an Update to GeoCalc Online With a New Point-to-Point Calculator

11/10/2020

Hallowell, Maine – November 10, 2020 – Blue Marble Geographics® (bluemarblegeo.com) announced today the release of GeoCalc Online, a geodetic parameter repository, with a new built-in Point-to-Point Calculator.GeoCalc Online, formerly known as the GeoCalc Geodetic Registry, is the cloud version of the GeoCalc library. All coordinate systems, transformations, and other definitions used by Blue Marble’s software products (Geographic Calculator, the GeoCalc SDK, and Global Mapper) are found in GeoCalc Online. Users of these applications can query about and update any supported definitions, as GeoCalc Online is continually updated in conjunction with leading survey and geodetic standards organizations (including the International Association of Oil and Gas Providers, EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset, the National Geodetic Survey branch of NOAA, and other academic and survey sources). These updates ensure the most accurate, redundant and proven geodetic conversions and calculations.

Blue Marble software users visiting GeoCalc Online can search the repository using the Filtered Search tool with advanced filtering options or utilize the Map Search tool, bringing all geodetic definitions to their fingertips. GeoCalc Online is also available to customers as a customer or self-hosted option for organizations that would like to have their own custom cloud geodetic registry.

Logging into the site with a Blue Marble account will give access to various actions, such as viewing or printing a definition’s parameters. For a limited time, this will also provide full access to the brand new Point-to-Point Calculator at no extra cost. This innovative new tool offers three operations: Convert, Forward, and Inverse, providing coordinate conversion and geodetic calculation functionality.

Full mobile browser support now expands GeoCalc Online’s functionality even further. Users are not limited to running geodetic operations at their desks; they can work anywhere, searching the registry or logging in to run calculations in the field on the mobile device of their choice. Without the need to install software, GeoCalc Online’s Point-to-Point Calculator can be used to conduct basic operations in the web app, expanding the reach of GeoCalc to users in the field.

“This is an exciting next step for GeoCalc Online, further extending its reach beyond the typical office environment, out into the field where work is happening,” stated Sam Knight, Director of Product Management, “With every update to GeoCalc online we are further leveraging our cloud technology to provide the tools our users need wherever and however they need them.”
