Esri® ArcMap® Plugin

If you have ArcGIS by Esri® version 9.1 or later installed, you will be able to take advantage of the Blue Marble Toolbar for ArcMap®.  This toolbar provides some of the functionality of the Geographic Calculator, within the ArcGIS Desktop.

Installation Notes

Upon installation of Geographic Calculator, if ArcMap® is detected, the toolbar will be automatically installed in ArcGIS.  ArcGIS must be installed prior to installing the Calculator for the plugin to install properly.  If ArcGIS is installed after installing the Calculator, simply reinstalling the Calculator afterwards should enable the plugin.  For version 9.2 of ArcGIS, ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack 4 is recommended.

The Toolbar

The toolbar consists of six buttons:

  1. Launch Geographic Calculator: This button will launch the Geographic Calculator and enable the other functions on the toolbar.

  2. Simple Point to Point conversion:  This will use the same geodetic data source file that is loaded for the Calculator application.  It will have the ability to select an input and output coordinate system, and a datum shift.  Once the coordinate systems and datum shifts are selected, the user can then do a simple point conversion similar to an Interactive Conversion in the Geographic Calculator.

  3. Create new coordinate system: This will launch the edit dialogs and allow the user to add custom definitions to the custom.xml file used in the Calculator.  Once a custom definition has been added, a message can be sent to the calculator application.

  4. Select a coordinate system for the Data Frame in ArcMap®: This button will allow the user to select any coordinate system from the Blue Marble Datasource.  The Esri® Projection Engine will then be used to project the current Data Frame to the new coordinate system.

  5. Add data to ArcMap® via a Geographic Calculator conversion.  The Calculator will transform the file, and load the converted file into ArcMap®.  In this case, the rules for datum shifts that are defined in the Calculator will be used for the conversion.

  6. Help: This button will launch the help for the plugin.
