Appendix I: Installation Procedures

There are two different ways to install the Geographic Calculator:

  1. Install from the Product Showcase CD

  2. Download from the Blue Marble Geographics Website

 

Method 1: Install from the Product Showcase CD

  1. Load the self-launching CD.

  2. Click Install (beneath Welcome). It may take a few minutes for the installation window to open.

  3. From the Please Select a Product to Install dropdown menu, select Geographic Calculator.

  4. Click the Install button.

  5. Evaluation Statement will appear. Click OK.

  6. The "Please exit all other applications prior to continuing with the install" message box will appear. Close any applications that may be open.

  7. Licensing Agreement will appear. Read this agreement, then click OK.

  8. Choose destination directory. Program Files/ Blue Marble Geographics should be highlighted. This is the proper destination directory.

  9. Select the type of installation method: standard or network.

  10. Installation will begin.

  11. When install is complete, several messages will appear. Select “Yes” to add a shortcut to the Start Menu. View the release notes (the Read-me doc) if you desire. (If you had another Blue Marble program open, your computer will restart. Please make sure you have closed ALL programs before installation begins).

  12. Select "Exit" if you are finished installing Blue Marble Geographic's products.

  13. Select "Yes" if you want to exit the installation menu.

  14. Check the start menu to find the Geographic Calculator.

 

Unlicense the Geographic Calculator

***An uninstall code will be displayed after the license has been removed, please report this code to Blue Marble***

  1. Open the application, and select File from the main menu

  2. Select License Manager

  3. Click in the Status filed box ( click on the word "SINGLEUSER") - your cursor will now be active & blinking

  4. Press the "CTRL" and "U" buttons on your keyboard at the same time.

  5. Select "Yes" when asked if you would like to remove the current license

  6. Select "Remove"

  7. Select "Yes" when asked to remove current license

  8. The next window will display a case sensitive uninstall code, **please record this code and send it to Blue Marble Geographics via email**

  9. Select OK

  10. Select Close

This software will now be running in evaluation mode. You may uninstall the software once you have submitted the license removal code.

 

Uninstall the Geographic Calculator software

  1. From the Start Menu, go to Settings Control Panel.

  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Program.

  1. Select the Geographic Calculator.

  1. Select Finish to execute the uninstall.

 

Method 2: Download the Geographic Calculator from the Blue Marble Website

  1. Sign on to www.bluemarblegeo.com

  2. From the Home Page, click Geographic Calculator.

  3. Click on download.

  4. Select the Geographic Calculator executable file (.exe). You will be required to enter your user email address and password. (Your user email address and password can be created on the Blue Marble Geographics website. Select "register here" if you have not registered on the Blue Marble Geographics website).

  5. Once you have entered your email address and password, the file should automatically download. Choose to either run the program from its current location or save to your hard drive.

  6. In Explorer, navigate to the location of the executable and double-click. The installation process will begin.

  7. You will also need to specify the "Save To" location of the program files.

  8. Go to the Start Menu Programs to open the Geographic Calculator.

Licensing the Geographic Calculator

NOTE: When the application is installed, it will run in a limited evaluation mode until the application is purchased and licensed.

Follow these steps to install and manage a single user or floating license:

  1. Download the latest version of the application from the Blue Marble Geographics website www.bluemarblegeo.com  Run the application setup executable.

  2. Proceed through the installation selecting the options of your choosing.

  3. Start the application and select File>License Manager. The status field should indicate Evaluation.

  4. Click on the License Product button to enter the wizard for entering a license code.  A dialog that guides you through the licensing process will open. REMEMBER: You must first purchase a license from Blue Marble Geographics.

  5. Once purchased, you will receive an order number for the product. Enter your order number into the Order Number field and click 'Next'.

  6. You are then prompted to select between having an 'active internet connection' or 'not being connected to the internet'.  Please make your selection.

  7. If you are not connected to the internet you will need to contact us (information can be found at www.bluemarblegeo.com) and we can walk you through the rest of the process.

  8. If you are connected to the internet, you will be given a prompt to visit our website where you will need to login using your email and password previously selected. You will then be brought to a screen where you will be given an automatically generated license code for your specific installation.

  9. When you receive your license code, enter it into the License Code field and click on the Finish button. If you have entered the proper code, you will receive a confirmation dialog. Click on OK. Notice that the status field is now changed to reflect the type of license that you have purchased.

  10. Please note that clicking in the 'Status' field and clicking 'Ctrl-U' will bring you to the remove license option within the application.  You will then be prompted by a new box within the License Manager if you want to continue with the removal of the license.
