Best Fit
using the Geographic Calculator
The Geographic
Calculator allows a user to map a previously unknown local coordinate
system to a valid geodetic coordinate system (WGS84). Once this mapping
is created, the user can then translate points from a local system into
any valid coordinate system stored in the Geocalc.dat database. To create
a custom coordinate system, make sure that the Latitude/Longitude
tab in the Unit display setting dialog is set to +/- sign, and the
decimal precision is high enough to approximate your local system (generally
> 6 places). (The Unit Display Settings dialog can be accessed through
the Options menu on the top of the Geographic
Calculator.)
