Perform Interactive Forward Conversions
A Forward
calculation is used to compute a new coordinate that is a given distance
and azimuth away from a starting coordinate. The
conversion will be calculated using either Geodetic or Rhumb Line which
can be set in Preferences.
To complete a Forward calculation, you must have:
- A
coordinate in a defined coordinate system
- Destination
coordinate system (on the same Datum as the starting coordinate)
- Distance
and Azimuth ahead
Example
situation
To compute a forward coordinate between any two
coordinate systems on the same Datum:
- Determine
which of the two sides of the Geographic Calculator main window will be
the Source
side.
- Click
Define
Coordinate System… and configure the Source
coordinate system. Use the
Format button to select the display format for your input coordinates.
- Enter
the Source
coordinate (
i.e. the starting point ) into the Coordinate Point Definition boxes
on this side.
- On
the Destination
side, click Define
Coordinate System… and configure the Destination coordinate system.
Use the Format button to
select the display format for your output coordinates.
- On
the Source
side, click the Forward
button.
The Forward Parameters dialog will appear.
- Select
Geodetic
or Grid
- Specify
the Forward azimuth and distance. Optional:
You may specify different Angular and Linear units by pressing on the
appropriate buttons
The forward
(destination)
coordinate value will be displayed on the destination side of the
Interactive conversions tab.
