Blue Marble Geographics awards its annual scholarship to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi student Kelsi Schwind

Hallowell, Maine – February 6, 2020 – Blue Marble Geographics® (bluemarblegeo.com) announced that it is awarding its annual scholarship to Kelsi Schwind, a Coastal and Marine System Sciences (remote sensing emphasis) student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, for her evaluation of the impacts of Hurricane Michael in 2018.

This is the second year Blue Marble Geographics is offering a US$500 academic scholarship to a graduate student who has demonstrated proficiency in Global Mapper® in a research project. Schwind’s research integrates structure-from-motion (SfM) data, airborne topobathymetric lidar-derived data, and GIS techniques to assess the impacts of Hurricane Michael on Little St. George Barrier Island off the coast of Apalachicola, Florida.

“The scholarship program is a great opportunity for us to amplify the research and knowledge of emerging GIS experts,” said Blue Marble Geographics President and CEO Patrick Cunningham. “Research like Kelsi’s, that employs the use of photogrammetric point cloud and lidar data, is in line with Blue Marble’s current focus in software development. I was excited to read her submission.”

Open to students around the world, the purpose of the annual scholarship program is to encourage students to explore the full depth of functionality available in Global Mapper and expand their core competency in the field of GIS. In addition to the monetary award, scholarship winners are also given the opportunity to present their research to a world-wide audience at Blue Marble Geographics’s annual online geo-conference GeoTalks, which will be broadcasted live on March 18, 2020.
