Blue Marble Introduces 3-D Coordinate Transformation Support in GeoCalc 6.1!

Gardiner, Maine —May 16, 2005 – Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) announces an update to their GeoCalc 6.1 developer tool kit. This fully object-oriented, cross platform version of Blue Marble’s coordinate conversion libraries was created to meet the accuracy and data conversion needs of GIS and mapping programmers. Blue Marble’s coordinate conversion technology is used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

GeoCalc 6.1 introduces a vertical datum transformation model that enables 3-D transformations based on various Geoid Models including NGS Vertcon and the following Geoid Models: GEOID96, GEOID99 and GEOID03 for the NGVD29 and NAVD88 vertical datums, AUSGEOID98 for AHD and OSGM02 for the Ordnance Datum Newlyn (ODN) (UK), Belfast Lough (Northern Ireland) and the Malid Head (Republic of Ireland) vertical datums. Higher order polynomial models have been added including LinearPolynomial2D, CubicPolynomial2D, QuadraticPolynomial2D, QuarticPolynomial2D and QuinticPolynomial2D for modeling a more complicated surface.

This release also improves the ease of use of the developer library interface with dialogue improvements. Enhanced Well Known Text support for ESRI, Oracle, and other common dialectics. EPSG support has been upgraded to v6.6 as well.

As an object-oriented component, GeoCalc 6.1 relies upon an XML data source and provides the latest support for WKT (well-known text) definitions per the Open GIS Consortium specifications. This product will support all previous GeoCalc coordinate system classifications, and will support any other coordinate system library definitions. Simply add a new issuer ID, attach codes to fully-defined coordinate systems and those definitions can be translated into our libraries. Now your old definitions will work in the latest development environments and across multiple platforms if you so choose.

"People who work with 3-D coordinate transformation have been asking for vertical datum transformation functionality in GeoCalc. We are taking GeoCalc to another level.” stated Kris Berglund, Director of Sales and Marketing for Blue Marble. "This year is an exciting one. We will be releasing some groundbreaking products that address where we think GIS software developer technology is heading. GeoCalc 6.1 is the first of many to come.
