File Browser

The File Browser provides the user with direct and easy access to their data. It allows for loading files into Global Mapper without leaving the interface. When opened, by default the window will be automatically docked below the Control Center.

The File Browser can be accessed from the button in the File toolbar, or from the Tools menu.

Use the Refresh button to reload the File Browser to reflect changes in Windows.

Use the dropdown menu to filter the browser to display files base on Global Mapper's supported file types, including recently used and common files data types.

Opening Files

  • To open a file from the File Browser, either double-click on the file, or drag and drop it into the workspace.
  • Multiple files can be loaded into the workspace together. Hold the CTRL key to select multiple files.
  • Drag and drop a folder into the workspace to Open All Files in a Directory Tree.

The File Browser is one of many methods of opening data in Global Mapper. Files can also be dragged and dropped into the workspace directly from Windows explorer, or use the Open Data Files tool to navigate Windows browser in a separate window, etc.

When loading many files that can be managed as a unit, create a Map Catalog.
