Loading Files of an Unknown Type
When the format of a loaded file can not be automatically determined a Select Overlay Type dialog will appear.
This dialog appears when the file extension is missing or not recognized. Specify a type from the drop-down to load the file using that file format scheme.
While any supported format may be selected from this list, some common choices from the list include:
- ASCII Text
- BIL/BIP/BSQ/BIN/GTOPO30/GLOBE/NED/TERRAINBASE
- CSV (Comma-Separated Text)
- DEM (USGS/CDED ASCII Format)
- ESRI (Arc/Info) ASCII Grid
- ESRI (Arc/Info) Binary Grid
- FLOAT/GRID (NED)
- Generic Binary Vector Data
- HDF5
Text Files
If the file can be read by a plain text editor, such as Windows Notepad, and contains X and Y coordinates and attributes, then it can be imported using the Open Generic Text File options.
