OpenFlight

Load OpenFlight

Global Mapper v20.1 and later can load openFlight (*.FLT) database files, creating an OpenFlightOverlay layer object using the highest Level Of Detail. Support for OpenFlight includes reading and adding to the layer points, lines, polygons, Bezier curves, meshes, and mesh textures.

Global Mapper will geolocate OpenFlight features using the database projection, when defined, or by requesting the projection from the user.

Export OpenFlight

The Export OpenFlight File command allows the user to export any loaded vector and 3D model files to an OpenFlight format file.

The Export OpenFlight File command can be accessed through File> Export >Export 3D Formats and choosing OpenFlight file in the Select Export Format dialog. Individual layers can also be exported from the Control Center by right-click on the layer and going to Layer > EXPORT.

The export will create an OpenFlight database of vector layers, including points, lines, polygons, meshes, and bezier curves. It will save mesh textures to a bitmap file (.bmp) format connected to the OpenFlight (.flt) file. It will also store vertex colors for meshes.

Below is a summary of recent changes to format support:
