Batch Seismic Survey QC

A Seismic Survey QC Batch can be used to perform quality control on multiple seismic survey files at one time. To complete a Batch conversion, you must first be familiar with setting up an individual seismic survey QC.

To create a new Seismic Survey QC batch:

Select File>New>Batch>Batch Seismic Survey QC or right-click inside the Project Manager (with nothing selected) and chose Create New Batch > Seismic Survey QC Batch. Alternately, from within an existing individual Seismic Survey QC job, the user may right-click on the job and select Batch Add... This will launch the Generate Seismic Survey Quality Control dialog.

Input Data

When using the Batch Add Dialog, the first step is to specify the input data to add to the job.  Select Seismic File or Control File from the drop down, and press the Add Data button in the top right corner of the dialog. Use the CTRL or SHIFT keys to select multiple files to load. Alternately, choose the Seismic Directory or Control Directory options from the drop down to load all matching files from the directory folder.

It is recommended to load the Seismic files first, as the corresponding control files can be automatically matched if they have the exact same filename. After loading the seismic files, there will be a prompt to load matching control files. Select Yes if the control files have the same file names, and locate the control files.

If the control files do not match exactly, the seismic and control files must be matched up manually. right-click on a row in the Input Data dialog to load an individual matching Control File or Seismic File.

Alternately, load the control files, and then use the SHIFT key to drag the control file to the row of the corresponding Seismic File.

Remove rows of files from the list using the Remove button, or remove all of them using Clear All.

Input Coordinate System

To specify the input coordinate system, select Use Coordinate System selected below. In the coordinate system box specify the coordinate system.

Choose Use data's coordinate system if it exists or Do not set the coordinate system if the files are not in the same system. Each job can be further customized once is it produced.

Quality Control Settings

Specify the acceptable thresholds and expected values for the report. The default values can be controlled in Preferences.

Difference from Control Position

Specify the threshold difference between the Seismic File and Control File locations. Shot points beyond the threshold distance are flagged in the report.

This option requires having both a Seismic File and Control File loaded.

Point Spacing

Specify the expected distance between shot points.

Shot points beyond the threshold distance away from the previous shot (+/-) will be flagged in the report.

This is calculated from shot points listed in the Seismic File, but if no Seismic File is loaded, it will calculate from the control file shot points instead.

Azimuth Change

Specify the acceptable change in azimuth (direction) from the previous shot point. Shot points that are out of alignment with the previous shot beyond the threshold change in azimuth will be flagged in the report.

This is calculated from shot points listed in the Seismic File, but if no Seismic File is loaded, it will calculate from the control file shot points instead.

Match Shot Numbers Match Shot Numbers is enabled by default. This will compare the Energy source point number specified in column 5 of SEG-Y Seismic File to the Point Number in column c7 of the UKOAA P1-90 Control File.

When Match Shot Numbers is unchecked, the seismic file and control file are compared sequentially, rather than by matching the common shot point identifier.

Export to Global Mapper

Select this option to open the quality control result in Global Mapper after processing the job.

Note: Each job will open a separate instance of Global Mapper.

This will load the seismic file, and the control file. It will also create a Seismic Survey Quality Control.shp file connecting each matching shot number from the seismic file to the control file.
