The Geographic Transformer is a tool for creating/manipulating image maps for your GIS, desktop mapping or CAD system. Raster image data sources include (among others) scanned aerial photography, scanned paper maps, and satellite imagery from industry standard sources.
The Reference component within the Geographic Transformer allows you to create a relationship between a source coordinate system and a reference coordinate system. You can select reference points within an image, interactively apply one of several solution types, assess the results, and interactively add, delete, and edit the reference point information to ensure an accurate registration. You can also transfer reference point information directly from your vector base maps in several supported formats.
For some desktop mapping applications, this geographic referencing of an image is sufficient. In other cases, you may choose to geographically transform the image. This becomes necessary when other spatial data, such as vector data, must be integrated into the same system, and the data sets are in different coordinate systems and map projections. You also may wish to view several adjacent image maps at the same time within your desktop mapping application.
The Transformation component of the Geographic Transformer can take your referenced "image map" and transform it into any one of the many coordinate systems and projections supported in the Geographic Transformer. The capability to tile the transformed image map into multiple files of smaller, uniform areas is also available.
The Mosaic component creates a composite image map from multiple input image maps sharing a common coordinate system and pixel resolution.
