Overview

GeoObjects® are high-performance, 32-bit OLE Controls for embedding spatial data access, display, conversion, and analyses capabilities in OLE and Internet applications. GeoObjects Map Control accesses databases and displays MapInfo format maps (.TAB/MIF), ArcView Shape (.SHP), AtlasGIS format maps (.AGF), AutoCAD drawings (DWG/DXF), Microstation (DGN) files, and many other vector file formats.  It also supports connecting to and displaying Oracle Spatial Databases, and it can display a wide variety of raster image formats.  For a list of all supported layer file formats, click here.  Currently GeoObjects package is composed of three controls:

GeoObjects Map control

The Map control comprises the major part of the package. It displays both vector and image formats, provides controls such as pan and zoom, supports query functionality such as feature name identification, and allows creation, editing, and display of new features. The ability to save new features to a TAB file in conjunction with the GeoConvert control enables users to save their newly drawn features in most of the most popular vector file formats.  User’s can set map properties before creating the map, create and set coordinate systems for the map and layers, and define and set layer specific properties before adding a layer to the map.

GeoObjects Legend control

The Legend control allows the developer to display a brief textual description and corresponding color shade as an explanatory key for the map. When used with the GeoObjects Map control, the Legend control can programmatically display meaningful Bin information.

GeoConvert control

The GeoConvert control allows the developer to convert most major types of vector from one coordinate system and file type to a different coordinate system and file type.  When used with the GeoObjects Map CoordinateSystem object this control provides an easy, quick, and powerful conversion tool.

GeoObjects Development

GeoObjects can be accessed directly by Microsoft's Visual Basic, Visual C++, Borland Delphi, and other ActiveX Control supported environments.

GeoObjects Map's major features include:

image\Bmge0011.gif Multi-layer Maps. Map supports multiple layers in mixed formats for a variety of vector and image sources.

image\Bmge0011.gif Data Binning. Map provides a variety of ways of presenting user data through the use of binning algorithms and thematic shading. Data Binning aids in the analysis of data by categorizing it so it can be geographically displayed in a meaningful way on a map or drawing.

image\Bmge0011.gif Data Control Binding The map-to-user database connection can be made via Visual Basic's data control, Powersoft's DataWindows, or Visual C++’s Remote Data Control for data presentation.

image\Bmge0011.gif Clipboard Copy and Paste. You can copy map images and supporting data to the Windows Clipboard for inter-application use.

image\Bmge0011.gif Thematic Shading of Points, Lines or Polygons. Map provides the capability of thematically shading any type of map feature including points, lines, circles or polygons.

image\Bmge0011.gif High Performance for Real-Time Data Display. Map's speed and robust architecture allow for dynamic data analysis and display.

image\Bmge0011.gif Creation, Display, Editing, and Saving of new features on the Overlay Layer. Feature and Layer renditions can be changed.

image\Bmge0011.gif Enhanced Map and Layer Properties. Properties can now be set prior to creating a map or loading layers.
