Converting a Point Database

To perform a calculation on a point database file you will need to:
  1. Create a new Point Database Conversion Job by going to File>New>Calculator>Point Database.

  2. Select the Convert radio button at the bottom of the Job page.

  3. Load a point database file by clicking the "..." button in the Input Data area at the top of the job window.  You can load data into the table from a file or from an ODBC database connection.  Note that the extension of any custom text file scheme that you have defined will appear within the file type filter list.

  4. Select your Input and Output coordinate systems.

  5. Use the Format buttons to select the display format for your input and output coordinates.  This is very important for angular units.

  6. If you select input and output coordinate systems that are based on different Datums, you will need to select a Datum Transformation.  If you do not, when you click the Calculate button, you will be prompted to do so.

  7. Click the Column Settings button to select the columns that contain the input and the columns that will receive the output.  Depending on the type of calculation you need to set up (Convert, Forward, Inverse, or Best-Fit), you will need to apply settings on the appropriate tab of the Point Database Settings window.

Alternately, you can right-click on a column header to make these same assignments:

  8. Click the Calculate button. Values will be read from the input columns for each row in the table, converted, and written to the specified output columns.
