Marketing Assistant

Job Description

This position will support marketing operations by acting as an assistant to the marketing team and reporting directly to the head of marketing (as of this writing the President though subject to change). The primary focus of the role is to manage deadlines, schedules, tasks, and execution of day to day, week to week, and month to month marketing plans as developed by the marketing team. Tasks will include compiling, formatting, and reporting calendars, information, and materials as directed by senior marketing staff. The overall focus is support of lead generation activities including web, outbound campaigns, trade shows, and social media. This candidate should demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously. This position also requires self-direction at times. Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff inside and outside of the department is a must. This candidate must be comfortable holding senior employees to deadlines in a supportive and positive manner. A high energy level, creative instinct, and sense of humor are essential.

  • Reports directly to the head of marketing
  • Reports indirectly to the Operations Manager and senior marketing staff
  • Assists with sales and marketing tasks as assigned
  • Provides support to Sales and Marketing department in a professional and timely manner.
    • Off-loads tasks from marketing manager and senior marketing employees, essentially the marketing team
  • Manages all marketing calendars and deadlines as assigned
    • Keeps a published team calendar
    • Tracks publishing deadlines
    • Tracks marketing deadlines
    • Tracks advertising deadlines
    • Tracks any other campaign or appropriate deadlines
  • Assists in coordinating of marketing meetings
    • Works with team on agenda, takes notes
  • Provides marketing tracking and research information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
    • Designs targeted campaigns
  • Assists with all marketing communications as required.
    • Maintains and updates schedules
    • Compiles press releases for distribution
  • Assists with the production of marketing materials and literature
    • Keeps promotional materials ready by coordinating requirements with graphics department; inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipts
  • Conducts campaign tracking by compiling and documenting returns
  • Improves and tracks SEO
    • Ad metrics
  • Assists with social media projects and followers on social media outlets
  • Assists with conference participation
    • Paper deadlines and submissions
    • Travels and presents when required
    • Tracks lead conversions and follows up after shows
    • Contest fulfillment
  • Accomplishes marketing and organization mission by completing related tasks as needed.
  • Researches and evaluates trade show opportunities.
  • Explores opportunities for grassroots marketing
    • State GIS resource web sites
    • Community event calendars
    • Regional conferences and trade shows
    • Wikipedia
  • Assists with product releases, web site updates, and virtually any marketing tasks as delegated
  • Assists with goal of developing an overall marketing campaign that is trackable and contributes to sales growth
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Ability to travel as needed

General Requirements

Candidate must have good communications skills, be a genuine people person, must have GIS business-to-business sales and marketing experience and must be comfortable with Windows-based computer technology & demonstrated skill using Microsoft Office and all appropriate business software. Passport required.

Education Requirements

College degree required.
